Blacksmithing is fun for many reasons. One of which is that you have to
start a project by making any tools that might be needed for the design.
For this project I had to quickly learn Repousse, a technique that forms
metal by hammering from the back, in this case brass for the letters around
the hook ring.To do repousse, I needed to make tools for shaping the brass
letters. The working ends of the tools are polished so that they don't leave
a mark or tear the thin brass. These tools below are made from forged spring
steel or old metal reamers.
