This was brought to the CATS meeting tonight at Slav's. It's a nice set
of wrenches in a leatherette (or maybe leather, it was weighty enough)
case. The set was missing one T-wrench and one knurled wrench. They were
all stamped simply "S.W. 1" through "S.W. 12"
The number 1 wrench was the
largest and 12 the smallest. The knurled wrenches have a through hole
that fits the cross bar on the T wrenches. The Logo on the case looks
like "G
B" in script.
Further description from Pete, the owner:
I measured some of the wrenches and they are not metric. The number
1"T" is 7/16 in.,
the no.6 "T" is 9/32 inches, the no.7 knurled is 7/16ths. There
is one T wrench missing
as well as something about an inch or less that would fit in the lower
right of the
case, below the smallest knurled wrench. (see photo attached) Not long
enough to
be a cross handle for the knurled wrenches. The two knurled wrenches
on the left are
no.9s, the two on the right are smaller but not numbered. Two of the
T wrenches are
number 4s. To these old eyes, the smallest wrench looks like it is 3/32
inch.
No, I don't think they are gunsmith's tools. I don't recall seeing a
hex nut on any
hand weapon. Not even on the Int'l Harvester M1 I had in basic training.
And the
wrenches are too small for artillery. Maybe a clock maker? I might take
them to
St. Francis as a Whatsit.
