Great for mid-range materials, assembling larger wooden joinery. Non marring
faces can be easily changed by loosening the nut at the base of the handle.
You could even turn wooden faces for this hammer with no problem.

Chicago Rawhide started business in 1878 using the hide produced by the
great Chicago Stock yards. Now they make gaskets and seals. Hmm.
Anyway, this is their number 1 sized mallet It's 9 inches long with a
3 inch head and 1.25 inch faces.

This is Garland's Model 11001 mallet. It's also 9 inches long, weighs
4 oz., with 1.25 inch faces and it's head is 2.5 inches. These light mallets
are great for small assemblies and jewelry makers love them. I would say
they are a little light to use as a wooden plane adjuster, but your milage

This is Garland's Model 11002 mallet. It's 10 inches long, weighs
6 oz., with 1.5 inch faces and it's head is 3 inches. This mallets
is fine for small assemblies and any job where a light touch is required.
This one is a little more suited to plane adjusting.
